Talks and Lectures
For various reasons, I am sometimes asked to talk about my work in person.
BYU
At Brigham Young University, I gave the keynote at that institution’s first video games studies symposium. My talk looked at the long history of games as religious praxis and the role of games specifically in the LDS tradition.
IFTF
The Institute for the Future, the groundbreaking, Palo Alto based futurist organization, had me deliver the keynote address at their annual forecast summit in 2011. I spoke about the possibility of new religions emerging from 21st century gaming traditions. The Next Web interviewed with shortly after that, and I gave this talk with some variations at Legoland and the NEXT conferences in Denmark the following year.
Story of the Week
I was invited on the Story of the Week podcast to speak with Joel Stein, Time magazine alum, about my WIRED story on Nordic Larps.
Hide&Seek
I spoke about my work at the London Institute of Contemporary Art in conjunction with some of my games being played at the Southbank Centre with the Hide&Seek festival.
UC Boulder
I have spoken a number of times as a guest of the Center for Media, Religion and Culture at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
Mormon Transhumanist
A fun gig was speaking to the Transhumanist and Spirituality conference, hosted by the Mormon Transhumanist Association at the University of Utah.
