UPDATE 6/25: I’m starting a Substack. The near term goal is to share some cool additional details about the Iraqi game I write about in the Atlantic. Longer term, it may cover my work on weird games.

I’m a writer and editor. My work follows two main personal interests: trends in medicine, and the intersection between games and religion.

I’ve spent nearly ten years as the editor of Proto —  an ideas magazine published by Massachusetts General Hospital, the chief teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School.

I also write about the kinds of games that change people’s lives. These pieces are published in both academic channels and the popular press.

I sometimes speak about one or the other of these topics. Venues that have had me in include Union Theological Seminary, RISD, The London Museum of Contemporary Art and the Institute for the Future in Palo Alto.
